Nightwanderer (2006)

I was on a little boat, 8 people maybe. We were travelling along the coast of Turkey and Greece, stopping at small islands en route. The company was uninspiring. I spent a lot of time drawing and writing and most of it drawing this little thing which is of another trip on an olde pirate ship in the Galapagos! The Greece and Turkey voyage was amazing, but this is not what I drew... I drew nighttime on the pirate ship. i would listen to music, I slept on a covered built in cooler thing that was right on the edge of the railing. If I slept too well I was likely to roll into The Sea. I just hung my head over the edge as we travelled by night and the plankton were like tiny little travelling stars in The Sea. Nightwanderers, I thought. And then I thought of all of the ghosts, too...
The foliage bits on the sail are from an island and the boat itself is from a piece of junk that floated in from The Sea. The other bit on the boat bottom is the inside of an almond shell.
Giclee print on Hahnemulhle german etching.
