Blackened Lewis and Clark Expedition Stool
Our Lewis and Clark Expedition Stool is inspired by campfire gatherings and exploration. This little stowaway is ideal for starry nights in the garden, cozy dinner parties – when a few more chairs are needed, or story time around a wood-burning stove in the dead of winter.
We first set eyes on the result of the gorgeous Japanese wood-blackening technique Shou sugi ban at a historic village in America (that I cannot, no matter how much I dig back, recall). The process involves charring the wood, toughening and preserving the exterior. The blackening, is what initially caught my eye, the effectiveness of the process against wind, water &c, only makes it better. Please note that the blackened finish may leave marks on some surfaces. Natural finish and other wood types are also available.
Each stool will vary in grain and indications of the wood’s prior use.
