The Nutshell is the ittiest bittiest in the Sendak Family, meant to suit your artistic needs in the most minimalist way—though we’re certain it’s not the quietest! It has all the charm of our other Sendaks: waxed canvas, vegetable-tanned leather, lots of pockets, and a zip pouch.
Pack it, tuck it into a bag or pocket, and away we go!

I started watercolor painting over a year ago and I'm now exploring plein air painting and this Sendak Nutshell is helping me organize my supplies and tools to do this. I've done two plein air watercolor hikes and have enjoyed how easy it is to find what I'm looking for quickly because of how well organized I can keep everything. I plan to take this on my two week cycling trip to France to use during my down times. I'm positive it will come in handy. Highly recommend it for the size that it is. I might buy a larger one down the road for road trips when I am not so restricted by airline luggage issues.

Love my little Sendak nutshell artist roll! It’s beautifully made and I love the color!So many things fit into it, it’s perfect for taking along for art outside. I’m still playing around with what to bring and where to put the pens/pencils as this is my first time using something like this. It doesn’t actually “roll-up” after putting items into it but I can still fold it and secure it all with the strap. Awesome awesome awesome!!! I’m sure I’ll be buying more from Peg & Awl!

Making this review in case you are like me and had many questions about this roll that amount to the general question - will it work? I couldn’t find my specific use case so hopefully this helps someone else out. I debated for a long time between this size and the mini and I’m happy I decided on the nutshell.
I’m not an artist but I am one of those people that reads by writing all over their books with highlights, flags, and post its. I also like to write things down in a pocket notebook (field note size).
The inside flap is just tall enough to fit pens/ highlighter/ sharpie. The pen pockets are wide enough for a fountain pen, but it is on the tight side (I fit an FC ambition which is a slimmer profile FP). A pocket notebook will fit in the inside pocket. I put it on the inside to demonstrate the flap will fold over, but I normally use a leather cover for mine and like that the strap can hold both the wrap and the cover. I was curious if you change the fold point if it would fold flatter into more of a bifold instead of a roll and the answer is also yes!
In the zip pocket I fit an aspirin tin and post its. The only thing I struggled to fit was a small roll of tape due to the thickness of the roll (1cm) which is a fine limitation to reach.
