BAGS

Waxed Canvas Care
Waxed canvas like leather does not require full cleaning and should not be machine washed, machine dried, or dry cleaned. If necessary, spot clean your waxed canvas with cold water using a sponge or gentle brush. Store in a dry place to prevent mold and mildew. Waxed canvas will better with age, but will need to be re-waxed in time. We recommend using Martexin Wax.

Leather Care
Leather does not require cleaning. Avoid soaking the leather in water. If your leather does become wet, let dry without applying heat. The leather closures and strap attachments on the Waxed Canvas Tote may be stiff when new. For the first few uses, place your hand inside the bag behind the brass stud and with your other hand, bring the stud up to the center of the line and twist off. After some use the straps and closures will be adjustable with ease. Please visit these pages if you need a longer strap or a replacement strap.

HOME AND GARDEN

Kitchen Object Care
Our kitchen objects are finished with Bartram Wood Balm, a natural balm that restores and preserves wood. We recommend that kitchen objects be refinished with Bartram Wood Balm when they start to get dull and look worn. Bartram Wood Balm is available for purchase here. Hand wash kitchen objects in hot water to clean. Do not let stand in water.

Refinishing
All of our non-kitchen wood objects are finished with pure tung oil and natural citrus solvent. Though they do not require refinishing, applying a fresh coat of tung oil will brighten them up and make them look new. Tung oil may be purchased here.

Tree Swing Care
Our Olde-Fashioned Tree Swing and Tree Swing for One come with Pro Manila rope. Pro Manila rope is made from a synthetic fiber and looks and feels like natural rope, but with a brighter colour. Unlike natural rope, it does not splinter, rot, or shrink over time and has a much longer lifespan than natural manila rope. We do offer the option to purchase your swing with natural manila rope. The natural fiber of manila rope will self-abrade internally and shrink 10–15% when wet. You see a swing with manila rope rise after a rain, and drop again with use. Peg and Awl is not responsible for the deterioration of the manila rope. Replacement manila rope can be purchased from any local hardware store. Bring swings indoors during the winter to ensure a longer life. See this video or this document for instructions on how to tie our tree swing.

Chalk Tablet and Chalk Pad Care
Seasoning your Chalk Tablet or Chalk Pad before use can help it erase more easily and prevents writing getting “burned in” – where chalk lingers faintly after it is erased. To season your Chalk Tablet or Pad, use the long edge of a regular piece of chalk to cover the whole surface in chalk and then erase. Use only the sharpened end of the chalk pencil when writing on your Chalk Tablet or Chalk Pad. For best results, use only white chalk pencils or actual chalk. We recommend white Koh-I-Noor chalk pencils, available for purchase here. Colored chalk pencils or other pencils may scratch the paint surface. To sharpen the included chalk pencil use a sharp pencil sharpener. To clean the surface, wipe with a damp cloth. If the surface begins to look worn over time, clean with vinegar. Wipe clean with water and dry.

JEWELRY

Care
Polish your jewelry regularly when it starts to look dull. Our oxidized jewelry has an external darkness that will eventually wear off – more quickly on raised, high-friction surfaces. You can re-oxidize your jewelry by placing it in a bag overnight with a fresh, mashed hard boiled egg. Clean the jewelry to remove any residue. Many people experience a greening effect when they wear bronze or brass rings. Our recycled bronze is treated and sealed to lessen tarnishing and skin discoloration, but eventually the treatment will wear off. The simplest way to reseal is to use clear nail polish.

Sizing
The best way to find your ring size is to go to a physical jewelry store and get measured. You can also use this guide here. We will resize rings for free once (buyer is responsible for one-way return shipping to our workshoppe; we will cover the cost to ship the jewelry back to you!). Any additional re-sizings can be done for a small fee. To arrange a resizing, please email us at customerservice@pegandawlbuilt.com
