Blackened Finish
We first set eyes on the result of the gorgeous Japanese wood-blackening technique Shou sugi ban at a historic village in America (that I cannot, no matter how much I dig back, recall). The process involves charring the wood, toughening and preserving the exterior. The blackening, is what initially caught my eye, the effectiveness of the process against wind, water &c, only makes it better.

Previously I have stored my paint brushes in a fabric brush roll, but this was proving to be less than ideal when I wanted quick access to a variety of brushes. The Beatrix Artist Caddy is the perfect thing to keep my brushes and knives easily visible and accessible. The three jars makes it easy to separate my watercolor brushes from the oil ones too; the taller jars are just tall enough to keep my longer brushes upright and stable. The blackened coloring is deep and subtle; I will definitely be purchasing more items with this finish.

This piece is both beautiful and functional. It is perfect for holding all my paint brushes and compliments my studio decor. I just love it!!! I will be ordering more from Peg & Awl they are awesome!!!!
