Waxed canvas originated in the sailing industry in Scotland in the 1920s and became widely used in sportswear and apparel because of its waterproofing abilities and superb durability.

I recently bought this tote in the limited autumn elderberry color which is just gorgeous. I spent quite a while trying to decide between it and the satchel and ended up getting this one because I currently have the large tote and the large satchel, and I THINK I prefer the tote because of the top handles and the outside pocket that allows me to segregate some things and grab them quickly even when the bag is zipped. The large bags are, indeed, large and, for me, are more for taking my laptop and all mother stuff to the coffee shop to get some work done or taking all my things with my EDC on trips or whatnot.
The smaller/regular sized tote is a great every day bag, though, and fits my every day carry (EDC) nicely. I’ve included photos here of my EDC and what it looks like arranged in the bag. I’ve also included photos of the two bags side by side for comparison because I REALLY wanted photos like that when I was looking.
Also, you’ll notice how I have use the Keeper pouch to tame my small items.
All-in-all, these are GREAT bags, and I will likely end up with more. I can’t imagine you’d be disappointed with any of them.

After eyeing this bag for a year I finally went for it. It might be the perfect bag?! It has been on city jaunts and woodland adventures. Keys and phone are easy to find when kept in the outer pouch. Plenty of room for the Mini-Sendak; I even keep a small jar of water in one of the interior pouches for watercoloring. Might have to put a second one of these on my wish list because it has become my everyday bag. Holds just enough and retains its shape so it never become a bottomless pit you have to go spelunking through. I thought the handles would pester me but they’re just right. It’s clear a lot of thought, care, and intention has gone into every stage of creating this bag. New fan for life, Peg & Awl!
