Description

PLEASE NOTE: We have changed the glass palette previously included with the Oil / Acrylic version (and shown in the photographs) to a more durable white Corian version.

The Scout Plein Air Box was inspired by our endeavor to make art every day.

This pochade box compactly secures all of your essential art supplies for painting outdoors. Fill your box with your favorite colors, paintbrushes, and sketchbook. Find your spot and quickly transform the box into a mini studio. Set it on a flat surface or mount it on a tripod, snap the liquid jars, brush holder, and easel in place, clip on your canvas and you are ready to paint!

When stepping outside, perspective changes and we discover unknown parts of ourselves. By making plein air painting a ritual, we are able to better consider our world and our relationship with it. We begin to observe more closely, to better see color, and to hone memory whilst striving to capture fleeting moments.

Sling your Scout Plein Air Box over your shoulder and set out on a painting adventure—you might just find something!

“There is nothing like looking, if you want to find something… You certainly usually find something, if you look, but it is not always quite the something you were after.”

–from The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

    The Scout Plein Air Box
    To Spain and Back

Little did I know that when I went looking for a plein air pochade small enough for the essentials, with a built in panel carrier, that my choice in the Scout would be inspired by the same story that inspired the making of it. Spain 2022. Jeremy and Nadezda. The rest is history.

As a plein air painter I had a larger setup, but after seeing Jeremy’s, I went on the hunt for something similar, and found the scout. Perfect.

I’ve had my scout box for three years and I absolutely love it. I take it everywhere.

After taking it along and spending yet another week in Spain this spring with Jeremy and Nadezda, it was pointed out to me that the scout I was toting along was similar to Jeremy’s for good reason… and now I feel the urge to write this review.

Walter, you did an excellent job making this. Perfect for those quick sketches, color studies, and ‘bunny squares’.

I’m so grateful that we shared the same trip tumbling down the rabbit hole, and that the result was the making, and the discovery of the scout.

I love using mine with a small tripod perfect to lift it slightly so I can sit cross legged on the ground. I’ve attached some photos of my setup during my most recent painting trip, where Jeremy sat over my shoulder as I captured the ‘bone pit’ in this historic cemetery.

Needless to say, I highly recommend this pochade box to everyone. It’s exactly what I needed, and inspired by one of the most incredible artists of our time. Thank you. 🙏🏻

    The Scout Plein Air Box
    From this generation forward

In the beginning there was a woman who used to watercolor in the bathtub as a way to release the week with paint and water. Now it’s my turn to enjoy something I have always wanted to learn to do. Should I have waited until I mastered the art of making art to purchase something so special? Oh heck no! There are many sacrifices. I have made over decades that have landed me where I am at today… Without good sturdy hips, and legs to go off on adventures with the rest of the family. It is what it is. But a treasure like this makes staying close by the campsite just to paint a wonderful way to spend the hours while the others are off doing things that legged people do. Best of all, they will have a memories of mom and her little paint box that made her so happy. And I have no doubt it will last our beyond my children’s children. Way to go peg and awl for making such a beautiful product

    Beautiful painting box!

This little, but mighty, painting box met all my expectations. I got it a few weeks ago, and it’s already gotten a lot of use. The craftmanship is impressive! The Scout will be a staple in my indoor and outdoor studio, and I’m so happy I went with it!
